Hello Program Directors,

I wanted to provide you some recent updates and clarifications to the Approved Training Requirements, along with some other updates here at ANFP. I also wanted to invite you to the Program Directors meeting scheduled at our Annual Conference & Expo this year in Las Vegas.

Requirements Update
In February an email was sent informing you of an update to the requirements that will take effect April 1st. With the new CMS regulations, ANFP has seen an increased interest in the exam. While we have multiple pathways for a candidate to register for an exam, Pathway I, which is for individuals who have graduated from an ANFP approved training program, is one of the most popular. In order to ensure a smooth process for graduates registering for the exam, we are asking for our approved schools to include consistent information on certificates of completion.

These requirements include:
  • Name of school
  • ANFP approved training program logo
  • Date graduated
  • Student name
  • Program Director signature

The link to the entire email can be found HERE.

As a reminder, we also require that the student be included on the graduate list. In the case where a candidate registers prior to us receiving a graduate list from you, we will reach out to confirm to prevent a delay in the student registering.

Requirements Clarification
We wanted to clarify the hours for field experience as we have received some questions. All 150 hours of the field experience will be managed by the Program Director. Fifty (50) precepted hours are required with twenty-five (25) of the twenty-seven (27) nutrition-related hours being directly supervised by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. The remaining twenty-five (25) hours are directly supervised by a CDM, CFPP, DTR, or RDN.

This wording is included in 2.3 of the requirements.

Student Textbook Ordering
An updated pdf document showing a step-by-step guide of how students can order textbooks is located on the Instructor Resource Page. Please feel free to download this guide and provide to your students. This information is also available on the Students page of our website.

Sanitation Hour CE Requirement
At its recent winter meeting, the Certifying Board for Dietary Managers (CBDM) voted to increase the number of Sanitation CE hours required of CDM, CFPPs during their three-year recertification period. The number of required sanitation CE hours will increase from five to nine effective June 1, 2017. This new policy will not impact the total number of CE hours required over three years, which will remain at 45. You can read more HERE.

Top 10 Series
